I know a lot of vegos and vegans aren’t into the ‘fake meats’ out there, but I quite like them. In the past, people have said ‘If you’re a vegetarian then why do you eat something that tastes like meat?’ and I say ‘Cause I DO like the TASTE of meat, I just don’t like the fact that it used to be a living, breathing animal’.
As far as veggie schnitzels go, I usually buy a brand called ‘Fry’s’ which are really good. They also do nuggets which are great and a few others that I’m yet to try. This week I was craving a schnitzel and veg but my woolies were out of stock of the ‘Fry’s’ brand. I headed to Coles to hunt them down but no luck either. Instead I picked up some Sanitarium Veggie Delights schnitzels. I had one last night with veggies and I have to say they are preeetty good. I definitely think that with most meat substitutes you can tell they aren’t meat - there’s always a different taste to them. That is, except for a particular veggie sausage I ate one day. Ben had gone to the trouble of cooking a pasta dish with veggie sausage bits in the sauce and when I ate it I was convinced it was real sausage and even made him go and fetch the packet out of the bin!!
This is what I just had for lunch: a sandwich with a bit of Praise 97% fat free mayo (did you know this stuff is vegan!? well, now you do), lettuce, tomato, cucumber, snow peas and a vegge schnitzels. Delish! Note - the schnitzels do contain egg.
